THOMSON, GA —Advantage Capital, a venture capital firm, small business lender and impact investor, today announced a $2.75 million investment in Thomson-based plastic injection molder, Thomson Plastics, Inc. The funding, made in connection with the Georgia Agribusiness and Rural Jobs Act (GARJA), will provide the company with working capital necessary to execute on growth opportunities and continue expanding its business in Thomson.
“This investment comes at an opportune time in our company’s growth trajectory,” said Steve Dyer, CEO. “We are always striving to improve our production efficiencies. This investment is providing us with the flexibility we need to take advantage of growth opportunities in the large tonnage molding market.”
Thomson Plastics designs, manufactures, and assembles custom plastic injection molded products for large industrial customers. The company specializes in high tonnage molding using specially designed models, gas assisted technology and injection molding presses. It currently employees 167 people in the surrounding community.
Thomson Plastics is Advantage Capital’s seventh investment under the GARJA program and has now invested more than $20 million in small businesses across Georgia, helping to spur new job creation and economic growth in rural communities.
“Thomson Plastics is exactly the type of business we look to partner with in our investment strategy,” said Tim Perusek, Principal at Advantage Capital. “We have been able to achieve great results through the GARJA program and it is exciting to continue to work with high-growth companies such as Thomson Plastics. Each investment we make offers a customized financing solution for the company that positions it for future growth, enabling it to expand jobs in the communities where they are located.”
The GARJA program was first passed in Georgia in 2017 and provides access to capital for small businesses such as Thomson Plastics. The program stimulates economic expansion in rural parts of the state that have not seen the same kind of economic prosperity urban areas have in recent years.
“Small business investment in rural businesses is exactly the kind of outcome we were looking to achieve when we initially passed the GARJA program,” said State Senator Max Burns. “The program’s goal was to drive capital into areas of the state that has traditionally been overlooked. By investing in our rural areas, we bring opportunity and prosperity to communities and households alike.”
The plastic injection molding industry is ripe with growth right now, expecting to grow to $7.2 billion in the next five years. Industry revenue is projected to rise 6.5% in 2021 alone as the economy rebounds from the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Thomson Plastics runs a 180,000 square foot facility in Thomson dedicated to the manufacturing, assembly, and warehousing of plastic products.
