In 2013 Quoddy’s upward trajectory was constrained by limited working capital options. Quoddy needed capital to stabilize operations and transition to a new business model to sustain its growth. Advantage Capital’s investment allowed Quoddy to develop its sales function and brand awareness.

PayIt’s digital platform brings speed and simplicity to residents’ interactions with government. Its digital-based service enables people to easily access essential government services or perform tasks such as renew motor vehicle registration and pay taxes from any device, anywhere. In the beginning, this startup faced difficulties accessing the capital it needed to grow and find a partner that could help it develop government relationships. Advantage Capital provided working capital to support PayIt’s national expansion and the development of its tech center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Formed with the consolidation of truck manufacturers E-Z Pack and Continental Mixing, Commercial Specialty Truck Holdings is a cement and refuse truck manufacturer in rural Kentucky. In 2016, the company was in need of capital as it worked to turn around the two businesses. An initial investment, along with flexible follow-on capital, stabilized the company enabling it to continue to grow. E-Z Pack has grown substantially, with more than 229 employees in its rural Kentucky location.

The first tortilla factory in Nevada, Los Arcos Tortillas (Tortillas) was founded in 1979 by Gus Gutierrez. This family-owned and operated business has steadily grown to become a major supplier of tortillas and other food products, both packaged and fresh. An investment from Advantage Capital allowed the company to buy the new packaging and kitchen equipment it needed to expand into in-house production of fresh food items and take its business to the next level, while growing jobs and opportunities in its North Las Vegas community.

Modern MD
Modern MD operates eight clinics in economically and medically underserved communities throughout Brooklyn and Queens where on average 20% or more of the population lives on or under the poverty line. In 2018, the company was looking for capital that would allow it grow. With financing from Advantage Capital, the company expects to open six additional locations across New York City. Modern MD provides a crucial service to these communities by diverting traffic away from emergency rooms and offering people a viable alternative for medical treatment. Accessible medical care isn’t the only way Modern MD is serving the community. It’s also provides more than 80 critical localized quality jobs.
First Orion
First Orion
First Orion is a fast-growing provider of network enterprise solutions and call management software. The company leverages data, advanced algorithms and machine learning to identify and block the more than 50 billion robocalls, telemarketers and other unwanted callers U.S. consumers received in 2019, as well as provide standard and enhanced caller ID solutions. An investment from Advantage Capital helped finance the completion of First Orion’s new global headquarters and bring as many as 50 new jobs to the downtown neighborhood of North Little Rock. Since 2014, First Orion has grown its number of full-time employees from 36 to 226.

In 2015, TurboSquid and Ford launched the Ford 3D Store, the first-ever automaker-licensed, one-stop 3D shop online.
Advantage Capital was one of the earliest institutional investors in the company. Our local presence helped the company attract additional capital from other investors without requiring TurboSquid to abandon its New Orleans roots. Since its founding, TurboSquid has tripled its employee count and is nationally recognized for being at the forefront of the New Orleans's tech-focused economic development efforts. Now occupying space in the Receivables Exchange building, TurboSquid’s move created a “cluster” effect, attracting additional small high-tech businesses to the Central Business District. In 2015, the company was named to The Idea Village’s inaugural NOLA100, a list of drivers of the local ecosystem that have started companies in New Orleans since 1999.

Recursion Pharmaceuticals is a drug discovery company that uses a novel drug screening platform to repurpose and reposition pharmaceuticals to quickly and efficiently identify treatments for multiple rare genetic diseases. The company was primarily funded by grants and angel investors but required more traditional institutional capital to grow. Advantage Capital’s investment provided this insightful capital and helped Recursion Pharmaceuticals secure a full first round of financing to support its research and development efforts. Subsequent investments supported Recursion as it sought to accelerate development, scale processes and discover more applications for its technology. The company has since moved into a 100,000 square foot headquarters in a highly distressed area of downtown Salt Lake City, and continues to grow its team of data scientists, biologists, and software engineers. Since its founding in 2013, the company has received numerous awards including, Fast Company’s Annual List of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.
