Did you know there are 2.52 million veteran-owned businesses in the United States? That’s roughly 1 in 10 businesses nation-wide—a testament to the hard work and dedication of the people who serve and protect.
November is National Veterans and Military Families month, and we are proud to help foster growth in veteran-owned businesses across the country and support our portfolio companies as they create good quality jobs and drive positive community impact.
Here are some of their stories.
In Las Vegas, aviation service company, Maverick Helicopter has grown to one of the largest aviation-based tourism companies in the country. Its owner first picked up his flying prowess as an Army helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. He now runs a business with a fleet that includes 47 helicopters and five airplanes. Since 1995, the business has been flying high above such attractions as the Las Vegas strip and the Grand Canyon, offering tourists a unique birds-eye-view of some of the country’s most jaw- dropping sites.
Back on the ground in a rural industry hub just outside of Nevada’s capital, Carson City, Vineburg Machine is a veteran-owned full-service machine shop providing manufacturing and machining services for various industries and sectors. Since moving to the state in 2004, the company has grown and expanded its operations, competing with high-volume overseas machine shops. As a leading manufacturer in the area, the company is working to bring more people, including local college and high school students, into the growing advanced manufacturing field.
In sunny Florida, service-disabled veteran-owned Xtreme Boats has been building high quality, handmade aluminum fishing boats on the state’s northwest panhandle since 1999. As a manufacturer of best-in-class, customizable fishing boats, this rural business is helping to build the local workforce through training and advancement, and create new, quality jobs within the community.
These are just a few examples of veteran-owned businesses in the Advantage Capital portfolio. We plan to continue to highlight more of these businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them. Be sure to check back as we add more stories to the blog. In the meantime, on Veteran’s Day and year-round, we want to thank the men and women who have served our country, and we salute veterans and veteran-owned companies everywhere.
